This is a combination of three antibiotics—amoxicillin, ampicillin, and azithromycin. Amoxicillin and ampicillin are both beta-lactam antibiotics in the penicillin class, while azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic. Each agent works via a distinct mechanism to inhibit bacterial growth or kill bacteria. Amoxicillin and ampicillin act by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to cell lysis and death. Azithromycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, thereby blocking translocation steps in protein assembly. Combination therapy with these agents has been studied primarily in experimental models for severe or resistant infections (such as pneumococcal pneumonia or group B streptococcus sepsis), where it may provide enhanced bactericidal activity and anti-inflammatory effects compared to monotherapy[1][2]. However, there is no evidence that this specific triple combination (all three drugs together) is used clinically as a standard regimen; most studies focus on dual combinations such as ampicillin plus azithromycin.
