amoxicillin + furazolidone + bismuth potassium citrate + esomeprazole

This is a quadruple therapy regimen used primarily for Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication, especially in patients who have failed previous treatment attempts with standard triple therapy. The combination leverages multiple mechanisms to effectively target H. pylori infection. Esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor, reduces gastric acid production creating a more favorable environment for antibiotic action. Amoxicillin is a beta-lactam antibiotic that disrupts bacterial cell wall synthesis. Furazolidone is a nitrofuran antibiotic with activity against H. pylori. Bismuth potassium citrate provides a protective coating on the gastric mucosa and has direct antimicrobial activity against H. pylori. Clinical studies have shown this combination to be effective as a rescue therapy with eradication rates of approximately 80-82% based on intention-to-treat and per-protocol analyses.
