This combination therapy is a multi-drug regimen used for the eradication of *Helicobacter pylori* infection. It consists of two antibiotics, amoxicillin and clarithromycin, and a mucosal protective agent, colloidal bismuth pectin. Amoxicillin is a penicillin-class antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). Clarithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. Colloidal bismuth pectin acts as a cytoprotective agent for the gastric mucosa and possesses direct antimicrobial activity against *H. pylori* by disrupting bacterial cell walls and inhibiting essential enzymes. In clinical practice, this combination is typically administered alongside a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) or a potassium-competitive acid blocker (P-CAB) as part of a bismuth-containing quadruple therapy (BQT) to overcome antibiotic resistance and improve eradication rates. This specific regimen is being evaluated in clinical trials led by Zhang Xiaofeng, MD, as a comparator against novel dual therapies.
