Reclav 625 is a branded generic combination antibiotic containing amoxicillin (500 mg) and clavulanic acid (125 mg). Amoxicillin, a beta-lactam antibiotic of the penicillin class, works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects amoxicillin from degradation by beta-lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria, thereby extending its spectrum of activity to include many strains otherwise resistant to amoxicillin alone.
