Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Edilox DC is a fixed-dose combination of two beta-lactam antibiotics, amoxicillin (an aminopenicillin) and dicloxacillin (a penicillinase-resistant penicillin). It is developed by Medicraft (Gujarat Medicraft) and is approved in India for the treatment of various bacterial infections. Amoxicillin provides broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens, while dicloxacillin is highly effective against penicillinase-producing staphylococci, thereby protecting amoxicillin from degradation by certain beta-lactamases and extending the overall spectrum of activity. Both components work synergistically by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis and leading to cell lysis.
