Overview

Amoxicillin + mesalamine is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents: amoxicillin, a broad-spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic, and mesalamine (also known as mesalazine), an anti-inflammatory drug primarily used to treat mild to moderate ulcerative colitis. Amoxicillin works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death. Mesalamine acts locally in the colon to reduce inflammation by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. This combination is not a standard fixed-dose product but may be coadministered in clinical practice when patients with inflammatory bowel disease require antibiotic therapy for unrelated infections. Studies have shown that coadministration does not result in clinically significant pharmacokinetic interactions or safety concerns[3][5].
