Amoxicillin works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death. Mesalamine acts locally in the colon to reduce inflammation by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. This combination is not a standard fixed-dose product but may be coadministered in clinical practice when patients with inflammatory bowel disease require antibiotic therapy for unrelated infections.
