Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination therapy consisting of three agents: - **Amoxicillin** is a broad-spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial death. It is commonly used in the eradication of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infections. - **Vonoprazan** is a potassium-competitive acid blocker (PCAB) that suppresses gastric acid secretion by competitively inhibiting the potassium-binding site of the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme in gastric parietal cells. This increases gastric pH, enhancing the efficacy and stability of antibiotics like amoxicillin against H. pylori. - **Fucoidan** is a sulfated polysaccharide derived from brown seaweed, investigated for its potential anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and possibly anti-bacterial properties. In this context, it has been studied as an adjunct to standard H. pylori eradication regimens to potentially improve eradication rates and modulate gastrointestinal flora. The combination has been studied in clinical trials for improved eradication rates of H. pylori infection compared to standard dual therapy with amoxicillin and vonoprazan alone[1]. Fucoidan's addition aims to enhance therapeutic outcomes by supporting gut health or directly affecting bacterial survival.
