Overview
Amoxicillin PULSYS (APC-111) is a modified-release formulation of amoxicillin designed for once-daily dosing in the treatment of pharyngitis and/or tonsillitis caused by group A streptococcal infections. It uses a PULSYS delivery system to maintain effective antibiotic concentrations over a 24-hour period. Pharmacokinetic studies show it has a delayed time to peak concentration (Tmax of 3.1 hours) compared to standard amoxicillin formulations, while maintaining therapeutic concentrations for approximately 13.3 hours above the target MIC of 0.06 μg/mL when taken with a low-fat meal. Clinical trials have demonstrated non-inferiority to penicillin VK when administered as 775 mg once daily for 10 days.
