Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Amoxikid is a branded generic antibiotic manufactured by Kampala Pharmaceutical Industries (KPI) Ltd, a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer based in Uganda. The drug is part of KPI's portfolio of essential medicines and is distributed across the East African region, including Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, South Sudan, and Rwanda. Based on its name and the manufacturer's focus on pediatric health, Amoxikid is a pediatric formulation of amoxicillin, a semi-synthetic, broad-spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic. It is used to treat various bacterial infections by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. Specifically, it binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which prevents the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis, leading to bacterial cell lysis and death.
