Overview

AMP-109 is a novel peptide-drug conjugate (PDC) consisting of the cytotoxic chemotherapy agent docetaxel linked to a targeting peptide. Being developed through an exclusive licensing agreement between Amphastar Pharmaceuticals and Nanjing Anji Biotechnology, the drug is designed to enhance the selectivity and bioavailability of docetaxel while minimizing the systemic toxicities associated with conventional taxane therapies. The peptide component is engineered to bind specific receptors overexpressed on cancer cells, facilitating targeted delivery. Once localized at the tumor site, the docetaxel moiety binds to tubulin, promoting microtubule assembly and inhibiting their depolymerization. This action disrupts the dynamic equilibrium of microtubules required for cell division, ultimately leading to mitotic arrest and apoptosis in cancer cells.
