Overview

AMP-301 is an experimental small molecule antineoplastic agent that was developed by the Arizona-based biotechnology company AmpliMed. Designed as an orally bioavailable compound, AMP-301 was part of a portfolio of DNA-interactive agents and pro-oxidants intended for the treatment of various solid tumors, including pancreatic cancer. Preclinical data indicated that the drug functioned as a DNA-intercalating agent capable of inducing apoptosis in multiple human cancer cell lines. Development of the compound was effectively halted following the 2010 clinical failure of AmpliMed's lead candidate, imexon (Amplimexon), in a Phase II trial for pancreatic cancer, which led to the company's restructuring and the eventual cessation of its oncology pipeline development.
