amperozide

Amperozide is an atypical antipsychotic of the diphenylbutylpiperazine class. It acts primarily as an antagonist at the serotonin 5-HT2A receptor, with relatively weak affinity for dopamine D2 receptors. Unlike most antipsychotics, it does not block dopamine receptors directly but inhibits dopamine release and alters the firing pattern of dopaminergic neurons. Amperozide was investigated for use in treating schizophrenia in humans but was never clinically adopted for this indication. Its main application is in veterinary medicine, particularly to reduce aggression and stress in intensively farmed pigs, thereby improving feeding behavior and productivity[2][3][4][5]. Studies suggest it has a limbic-selective mode of action with minimal risk for extrapyramidal side effects[6].
