Overview

**Amphetamine mixed salts** is an orally administered central nervous system stimulant comprising dextroamphetamine saccharate, amphetamine aspartate monohydrate, dextroamphetamine sulfate, and amphetamine sulfate, producing a 3:1 ratio of dextroamphetamine to levoamphetamine. It is marketed in immediate-release and extended-release products, including Adderall, Adderall XR, and Mydayis. Amphetamine acts principally at dopamine and norepinephrine transporters, increasing synaptic catecholamine signaling through transporter-mediated inhibition of reuptake and promotion of monoamine release. Immediate-release mixed amphetamine salts are approved for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and narcolepsy; extended-release products are approved for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. These products are Schedule II controlled substances with substantial risks of abuse, misuse, dependence, and addiction.
