Amphotericin B + filgrastim is a combination therapy consisting of two distinct agents used together, primarily in the management of patients with severe neutropenia and high risk for invasive fungal infections, such as those undergoing chemotherapy or bone marrow transplantation. Amphotericin B is a polyene antifungal that binds to ergosterol in fungal cell membranes, creating pores that lead to cell death. It is indicated for serious systemic fungal infections including aspergillosis, candidiasis, cryptococcosis, and others[4][9]. Filgrastim is a recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) that stimulates the proliferation and differentiation of neutrophil precursors, thereby reducing the duration and severity of neutropenia following myelosuppressive therapy[3][6]. The combination may be used empirically or therapeutically in immunocompromised patients to both treat active fungal infection (amphotericin B) and accelerate neutrophil recovery (filgrastim), which can reduce infection-related morbidity and decrease the need for prolonged antifungal use[1][2][8].
