Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Amphotericin B liposomal (CSPC Zhongnuo Pharmaceutical) is a generic, bioequivalent formulation of the reference antifungal drug AmBisome, developed by CSPC Zhongnuo Pharmaceutical (Shijiazhuang) Co., Ltd. The drug consists of the polyene antifungal agent amphotericin B encapsulated within a liposomal delivery system. Its mechanism of action involves binding to ergosterol, a key component of fungal cell membranes, which results in the formation of transmembrane pores, leakage of essential intracellular ions (such as potassium), and fungal cell death. The liposomal formulation is specifically designed to reduce the significant nephrotoxicity associated with conventional amphotericin B deoxycholate while maintaining broad-spectrum efficacy. It is primarily being developed for the treatment of invasive fungal infections and persistent febrile neutropenia, with clinical development reaching Phase III trials.
