Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ampicillin + tobramycin is an antibiotic combination that demonstrates synergistic effects against various bacterial infections. This combination pairs ampicillin, a beta-lactam antibiotic, with tobramycin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic. Studies have shown that this combination exhibits synergistic activity against aminoglycoside-resistant group B streptococci and certain gram-negative bacteria, including Escherichia coli. The combination achieves rapid bacterial killing at concentrations where each antibiotic alone would be insufficient to be bactericidal. The synergistic effect is particularly notable against Pseudomonas, Klebsiella, E. coli, and both Staphylococcus aureus and albus.
