Overview
Amportacs is a first-in-class small molecule drug developed to target and degrade toxic amyloid pores associated with neurodegenerative diseases. Unlike traditional therapies that focus on insoluble amyloid fibers, Amportacs specifically promotes the targeted ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation of amyloid pores—soluble oligomeric protein aggregates that puncture cell membranes, disrupt calcium homeostasis, and drive cell death in conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). This mechanism aims to protect cellular membranes from the toxic effects of protein misfolding and aggregation[1][2].
