Overview

This is a **combination of two HIV-1 protease inhibitors, amprenavir and indinavir**, used together as part of an antiretroviral regimen for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. Both components are small molecule inhibitors that target the HIV-1 protease, an enzyme critical for the maturation of infectious viral particles. By inhibiting this enzyme, the combination prevents the production of mature, infectious HIV virions. Dual protease inhibitor therapy, including amprenavir plus indinavir, has demonstrated substantial antiviral activity in clinical trials and was generally safe and well tolerated, though pharmacokinetic interactions can occur between the two agents resulting in decreased plasma exposure to indinavir when coadministered with amprenavir[2][5].
