Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Amruthotharam Kashayam is a traditional polyherbal Ayurvedic decoction manufactured by Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala. The formulation is primarily composed of *Tinospora cordifolia* (Giloy), *Zingiber officinale* (Ginger), and *Terminalia chebula* (Haritaki). It is traditionally indicated for the treatment of fevers of varied etiology, early-stage rheumatoid arthritis, and rheumatic fever. According to Ayurvedic principles, it works by balancing the Pitta and Kapha doshas and cleansing 'ama' (metabolic toxins) from the digestive system. A 2021 phytochemical characterization study published in the Journal of Applied Spectroscopy utilized HPTLC, FTIR, and LC/MS-MS to demonstrate that the preparation process induces chemical transformations, resulting in a synergistic profile that enhances the therapeutic efficacy of its active constituents compared to individual plant extracts.
