AMT-020

AMT-020 (also known as AR-401) is a fully human monoclonal antibody of the IgG1 isotype designed for the treatment and prevention of influenza A virus infections. Originally discovered by Humabs BioMed (a subsidiary of Vir Biotechnology) and subsequently licensed to Aridis Pharmaceuticals, AMT-020 targets a highly conserved epitope in the stalk region of the hemagglutinin (HA) protein. This region is common across multiple subtypes of influenza A, including seasonal H1N1 and H3N2, as well as avian strains such as H5N1 and H7N9. By binding to the HA stalk, AMT-020 inhibits the pH-induced conformational change required for viral-host cell membrane fusion, thereby preventing the virus from entering host cells. This broad-spectrum activity makes it a candidate for universal influenza therapy, potentially effective against both seasonal and pandemic strains. While it served as a precursor to Vir Biotechnology's VIR-2482, AMT-020 was independently progressed by Aridis for clinical development.
