Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Amubarvimab is a fully human IgG1 monoclonal antibody developed to target the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19. It binds to specific epitopes on the receptor binding domain (RBD) of the spike protein, overlapping with ACE2 binding sites, thereby blocking viral entry into host cells. Amubarvimab is typically used in combination with romlusevimab (BRII-198), and this cocktail has demonstrated broad neutralizing activity against multiple SARS-CoV-2 variants, including Alpha, Beta, Delta, and some Omicron subvariants. The drug was jointly developed by Brii Biosciences, Tsinghua University, and the Third People’s Hospital of Shenzhen. In December 2021 it received conditional approval in China for treating mild COVID-19 in adults and high-risk adolescents[2][6][7].
