Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Amval is a generic fixed-dose combination of amlodipine (a calcium channel blocker) and valsartan (an angiotensin II receptor antagonist) developed and manufactured by Novugen Pharma. It is administered orally as a film-coated tablet and is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension, particularly in patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by monotherapy. Amlodipine works by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle cells, leading to vasodilation and decreased peripheral vascular resistance. Valsartan selectively blocks the angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor, preventing the vasoconstrictive and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II. Together, these complementary mechanisms provide effective blood pressure control.
