Overview

Amxetine (amxetine hydrochloride) is a novel small molecule antidepressant developed by the Institute of Toxicology and Pharmacology at the Academy of Military Medical Sciences (AMMS) in China. It is designed as a triple reuptake inhibitor (SNDRI), a class of drugs that simultaneously inhibits the reuptake of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine from the synaptic cleft. This multi-target mechanism is intended to provide broader therapeutic efficacy and potentially a faster onset of action compared to traditional selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). Amxetine is formulated as enteric-coated tablets to optimize its pharmacokinetic profile and gastrointestinal tolerability. It has been evaluated in Phase 1 and Phase 2 clinical trials in China for the treatment of major depressive disorder.
