Overview

Amydis TDP-43 retinal tracer is a novel small-molecule imaging agent in development for the non-invasive detection of TAR DNA-binding protein 43 (TDP-43) aggregates in the retina. The drug is designed to bind specifically to pathological clumps of TDP-43—a hallmark biomarker found in nearly all cases of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and about half of frontotemporal dementia (FTD) cases—enabling their visualization using standard ophthalmic imaging devices. By emitting a strong fluorescent signal upon binding to these aggregates, the agent aims to facilitate early diagnosis and disease monitoring for ALS and potentially other neurodegenerative diseases associated with TDP-43 pathology. The developer, Amydis, is advancing this first-in-class diagnostic tool through clinical trials with support from NIH grants and collaboration with Target ALS[1][2][3][5][6][8].
