Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AMYL-001 is a novel molecule developed by Amyl Therapeutics, functioning as a Pan-Amyloid Immunotherapy. It is designed to conformationally bind to the shared cross-β sheet structure found in various toxic protein aggregates, including amyloid-β (Aβ), Tau, and α-synuclein, which accumulate in the brain, as well as light chain (AL) and transthyretin (TTR) amyloid fibrils found in peripheral organs. This pan-amyloid targeting approach aims to inhibit the formation of early-stage aggregates, clear mature fibrils, and block the cell-to-cell spread of misfolded proteins. The drug is being developed for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease, and systemic amyloidosis, offering a broad therapeutic effect by targeting all amyloid folds, unlike classical monoclonal antibodies that typically target a single type of amyloid.
