Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AmyP53 is a first-in-class chimeric peptide developed by AmyPore for the treatment of neurodegenerative proteinopathies, including Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. Administered as a nasal spray, the drug targets the amyloid pores/gangliosides pathway to block the neurotoxic cascade. Its mechanism of action involves preventing amyloid oligomers from binding to gangliosides in brain cell membranes, thereby inhibiting the formation of neurotoxic pores. AmyP53 is currently in preclinical development and serves as the prototype for a platform technology that may address other protein-misfolding conditions such as diabetes, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, and ALS.
