Overview

AmyTrap 2 is a patented therapeutic molecule developed for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. It consists of a polymer-bound short peptide, specifically designed to capture and sequester beta-amyloid (Aβ) peptides from circulation. The polymer moiety is conjugated to albumin, enhancing its stability and circulatory half-life. The active pharmacological ingredient is a retro-inverso Aβ-binding peptide, which binds Aβ with high affinity but does not cross the blood-brain barrier. Instead, it acts as a peripheral sink for circulating Aβ, thereby promoting efflux of amyloid from the brain into the bloodstream and reducing amyloid plaque burden in preclinical mouse models. Subcutaneous administration in animal studies has shown significant reduction in brain Aβ plaques and improvement in cognitive parameters without direct entry into the central nervous system[1][5][2].
