Overview

AmyTrap-4 is a synthetic peptide-based therapeutic developed for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. It is part of the AmyTrap series, which are patented molecules composed of polymer-bound short peptides designed to capture and sequester beta-amyloid (Aβ) peptides from circulation. The mechanism involves binding to specific motifs on Aβ42 that promote its misfolding and aggregation, thereby preventing self-aggregation and facilitating clearance from the bloodstream. This peripheral sequestration is hypothesized to shift the equilibrium between brain and blood Aβ levels, promoting efflux from the brain and reducing amyloid plaque burden without direct central nervous system penetration. Preclinical studies in mouse models have shown significant reduction in brain Aβ plaques and cognitive improvement following subcutaneous administration[1][3][4]. AmyTrap-4 specifically targets Beta amyloid A4 protein (APP), acting as a modulator.
