Overview

AN-FUC is a sulfated polysaccharide, specifically a fucoidan, extracted from the North Atlantic brown algae *Ascophyllum nodosum*. It is primarily composed of fucose and xylose, with sulfate groups typically located at the C2 and C4 positions of the sugar residues. Preclinical research indicates that AN-FUC possesses significant anti-hyperlipidemic and antioxidant activities. In animal models of hyperlipidemia, administration of AN-FUC fractions (such as AFC-1 and AFC-2) has been shown to improve lipid profiles by reducing total cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL-C, while also lowering blood glucose levels and enhancing the activity of lipoprotein-metabolism-related enzymes. Furthermore, AN-FUC helps maintain gut microbiota diversity and mitigates oxidative stress, suggesting potential applications as a therapeutic agent or nutraceutical for metabolic disorders.
