Anacardium occidentale leaf extract is a phytochemical-rich extract derived from the leaves of the cashew tree (Anacardium occidentale), traditionally used in folk medicine in Brazil, West Africa, and Southeast Asia. The extract exhibits antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, analgesic, hypoglycemic, and hypolipidemic properties based on in vitro and animal studies. Mechanistically, it suppresses the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines (such as TNF-α and IL-1β), scavenges reactive oxygen species, and inhibits microbial growth. Major bioactive compounds include phenolic acids (e.g., gallic acid), flavonoids (e.g., quercetin, myricetin), triterpenes, and xanthones. Preclinical data suggest hepatoprotective effects in mouse models of liver injury, although high doses may induce hepatic toxicity. Traditional uses include the treatment of infections, inflammation, rheumatism, diarrhea, diabetes, skin diseases, and hypertension. There are, however, no approved pharmaceutical claims or established clinical uses to date.[1][2][3][5][6]
