Anaemetro

Anaemetro is a branded intravenous formulation of the nitroimidazole antimicrobial metronidazole, marketed in Japan primarily for the treatment of anaerobic bacterial infections, infectious enteritis (including pseudomembranous colitis), and amoebic dysentery. It exerts bactericidal and antiprotozoal effects by entering susceptible anaerobic organisms, where its nitro group is reduced to reactive intermediates that bind to and disrupt DNA, inhibiting nucleic acid synthesis and leading to cell death. The drug is positioned for use in patients with severe underlying conditions who often cannot take oral therapy, and is used in clinical practice across indications such as sepsis, deep-seated skin and soft-tissue infections, intra-abdominal and pelvic infections, brain and liver abscesses, and other serious anaerobic infections.
