It is marketed for the treatment and prevention of a wide range of viral infections, including influenza, acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI), and herpesvirus infections. The drug consists of "release-active" affinity-purified antibodies to human interferon gamma (IFN-gamma), which are prepared using homeopathic-style ultra-high dilutions (typically $10^{-15}$ ng/g). According to the manufacturer, Anaferon enhances the production of endogenous interferons and modulates the functional activity of the IFN-gamma receptor, thereby stimulating both innate and adaptive immune responses.
