Overview

Anakinra + doxycycline is a combination therapy that pairs an interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (anakinra) with a tetracycline antibiotic (doxycycline). Anakinra works by binding to the IL-1 receptor, competing with and inhibiting the activity of IL-1 alpha and beta, thereby reducing inflammation. Doxycycline is known to suppress inflammatory responses in the skin through incompletely understood mechanisms without exerting substantial systemic immunosuppressive effects. This combination has shown efficacy in treating atypical skin manifestations in Adult-Onset Still's Disease (AOSD) and has been investigated for potential benefits in COVID-19 pneumonia.
