Anamorelin is a synthetic, orally bioavailable small molecule that acts as a selective agonist of the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHSR), also known as the ghrelin receptor. By mimicking the action of endogenous ghrelin, it stimulates appetite and promotes anabolic effects such as increased growth hormone (GH) release and elevated levels of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF‑1). Anamorelin has been primarily developed for the treatment of cancer cachexia and anorexia, where it increases appetite, body weight, lean body mass, and muscle strength. The drug was originally developed by Novo Nordisk and further developed by Helsinn Therapeutics in collaboration with Ono Pharmaceutical[2][5][7][8].
