Overview

Anaprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) under development for the treatment of acid-related gastrointestinal disorders, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and peptic ulcer disease. Like other PPIs, it works by selectively and irreversibly inhibiting the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme system (the gastric proton pump) in parietal cells of the stomach, thereby reducing gastric acid secretion. Anaprazole is structurally related to other PPIs such as omeprazole and lansoprazole. It has been investigated primarily in East Asia for its efficacy and safety profile compared to existing PPIs.
