anastrozole

Anastrozole is a nonsteroidal aromatase inhibitor used primarily in the treatment of hormone receptor-positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women. It works by inhibiting the enzyme aromatase, which is responsible for converting androgens to estrogens, thereby reducing estrogen levels in the body. This reduction slows or stops the growth of estrogen-dependent breast cancer cells. Anastrozole is also used as a first-line treatment for advanced or metastatic breast cancer and can be prescribed to prevent breast cancer in women at high risk.
