anastrozole + levonorgestrel

Anastrozole + levonorgestrel is a fixed-dose combination of two small molecule drugs, anastrozole (an aromatase inhibitor) and levonorgestrel (a synthetic progestin), developed for use in an intravaginal ring. The combination was investigated primarily for the long-term treatment of endometriosis-associated pelvic pain and as a contraceptive. Anastrozole works by inhibiting the enzyme aromatase, thereby reducing estrogen production, while levonorgestrel acts as a progesterone receptor agonist to suppress ovulation and alter cervical mucus. The product was developed by Bayer HealthCare under the code name BAY 98-7196 but has been discontinued following phase II/III trials for both endometriosis and pregnancy prevention[2][3][4].
