ANAVEX 7-1037 is a synthetic small molecule sigma ligand developed by Anavex Life Sciences Corp. for the treatment of various solid tumors, including colorectal, prostate, and pancreatic cancers. It acts primarily as a high-affinity ligand for the sigma-1 receptor (nanomolar range) and shows moderate affinity for sigma-2 receptors and sodium channels (micromolar range). Preclinical studies indicate that the compound induces apoptosis in human colon cancer cells (HCT116) through the activation of caspases -3, -8, and -9. Developed via the SIGMACEPTOR discovery platform in collaboration with Université Montpellier, ANAVEX 7-1037 has demonstrated significant tumor growth suppression in xenograft models without the typical side effects associated with conventional chemotherapy.
