Andamy is a recombinant human annexin A1 (rhANXA1) protein developed by Guizhou Provincial People's Hospital for the treatment of sepsis, systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), and septic shock. Annexin A1 is an endogenous protein that mediates the anti-inflammatory effects of glucocorticoids and plays a critical role in the resolution phase of inflammation. It functions primarily as an agonist of the formyl peptide receptor 2 (FPR2/ALX), a G protein-coupled receptor. By activating FPR2, Andamy inhibits the recruitment and activation of neutrophils, promotes the apoptosis of inflammatory cells, and stimulates the clearance of apoptotic debris by macrophages (efferocytosis). This multi-pronged approach helps to attenuate the cytokine storm and excessive systemic inflammation characteristic of sepsis while preserving the host's ability to resolve the underlying pathology. Andamy is the first recombinant human Annexin A1 drug to enter clinical trials globally.
