Overview

The Andes virus DNA vaccine is an investigational DNA-based vaccine designed to prevent hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) caused by the Andes virus (ANDV), a rodent-borne hantavirus endemic to South America. The vaccine consists of a plasmid encoding the envelope glycoprotein genes (Gn and Gc) of the Andes virus, delivered via needle-free jet injection. Its mechanism involves inducing host cells to express viral antigens, thereby eliciting neutralizing antibody responses against ANDV. In a Phase 1 clinical trial, the vaccine demonstrated safety and robust immunogenicity in healthy adults, with high seroconversion rates and durable neutralizing antibody titers[5][4][1]. There are currently no FDA-approved vaccines for HPS or ANDV infection.
