andexanet alfa

Andexanet alfa is a recombinant modified version of human coagulation Factor Xa, developed as an antidote for the direct oral anticoagulants rivaroxaban and apixaban. It acts as a decoy receptor by binding to these Factor Xa inhibitors with high affinity, thereby sequestering them and preventing their interaction with endogenous Factor Xa. This reversal restores normal blood coagulation in cases of life-threatening or uncontrolled bleeding associated with these anticoagulants. Additionally, andexanet alfa can bind to and inhibit tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI), further promoting thrombin generation. The drug was developed by Portola Pharmaceuticals and is marketed under the brand name Andexxa for intravenous use[2][3][5][6].
