Overview
Andrographolide sulfonate is a water-soluble sulfonation derivative of andrographolide, the main bioactive compound from the plant Andrographis paniculata. It is a major active ingredient in Xiyanping injection, a traditional Chinese medicine widely used in China for treating upper respiratory tract infections and pneumonia. The drug exhibits anti-inflammatory, antibacterial (notably against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), antiviral (including activity against respiratory syncytial virus), antioxidant, and antineoplastic properties. Mechanistically, it acts by inhibiting NF-κB signaling to suppress inflammation and downregulating genes involved in bacterial quorum sensing and biofilm formation. It also modulates immune responses via TLR3-TRIF pathways and inhibits NLRP3 inflammasome activation to reverse chemoresistance in cancer models[1][2][4].
