Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Aneprazole (also referred to as anelazole) is a novel small molecule potassium-competitive acid blocker (P-CAB) developed for the treatment of acid-related gastrointestinal disorders, including *Helicobacter pylori* infection. Unlike traditional proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) that require acid activation and bind covalently to the proton pump, aneprazole inhibits the gastric H+/K+-ATPase enzyme in a reversible and potassium-competitive manner. This mechanism allows for a more rapid onset of action, higher stability in acidic environments, and more consistent, long-lasting suppression of gastric acid. In clinical trials, aneprazole is being evaluated as part of dual therapy regimens (e.g., with amoxicillin) to enhance the eradication rates of *H. pylori* by maintaining an optimal intragastric pH for antibiotic activity.
