Overview

Anfibatide is a novel antiplatelet agent derived from the venom of the snake *Agkistrodon acutus*. It functions as a specific antagonist of the platelet glycoprotein Ib (GPIb) receptor, specifically the GPIb-IX-V complex. By blocking the binding site for von Willebrand factor (vWF) on the GPIb alpha subunit, anfibatide inhibits platelet adhesion and aggregation, particularly under high-shear stress conditions typical of arterial thrombosis. Developed by Lee's Pharmaceutical, the drug is primarily being evaluated for the treatment of acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) and acute coronary syndromes, including ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI). Clinical studies suggest that anfibatide offers potent anti-thrombotic effects with a lower risk of bleeding compared to traditional antiplatelet therapies and exhibits rapid reversibility.
