Overview

ANG-anti-EGFR is a preclinical-stage peptide-monoclonal antibody conjugate developed by Angiochem for the treatment of primary and metastatic brain tumors, including glioblastoma. The drug utilizes Angiochem's proprietary EPiC (Engineered Peptide Compounds) platform, which involves conjugating a monoclonal antibody targeting the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) to Angiopep-2, a peptide derived from aprotinin. This peptide is designed to bind to the Low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 1 (LRP1) on the blood-brain barrier (BBB), facilitating receptor-mediated transcytosis and enabling the antibody to reach therapeutic concentrations within the central nervous system. Once across the BBB, the antibody component targets and inhibits EGFR, which is frequently overexpressed or mutated in glioblastoma, thereby inhibiting tumor cell proliferation and survival.
