ANG1009 is a preclinical peptide-drug conjugate (PDC) developed by Angiochem for the treatment of brain cancer. It utilizes Angiochem's proprietary EPiC (Engineered Peptide Compounds) platform, specifically the Angiopep-2 peptide, which is designed to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) by targeting the low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 1 (LRP1) via receptor-mediated transcytosis. The therapeutic payload is etoposide, a chemotherapy agent that inhibits DNA topoisomerase II, leading to double-stranded DNA breaks and cell death. By conjugating etoposide to the Angiopep-2 carrier, ANG1009 aims to overcome the poor CNS penetration of conventional etoposide, potentially providing a more effective treatment for primary brain tumors and brain metastases.
