Overview

Angelica dahurica root, commonly known as Bai Zhi in traditional medicine, is a herbal drug valued for its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and vasorelaxant properties. The root contains a variety of bioactive furanocoumarins, including imperatorin, phellopterin, and byakangelicin, which are responsible for its pharmacological profile. Mechanistically, it inhibits pro-inflammatory pathways such as NF-κB and STAT3, modulates TRPV1 channels to alleviate pain, and acts as a PPARγ agonist to improve insulin sensitivity. Research has explored its potential in treating atopic dermatitis, osteoarthritis, hypertension, and metabolic syndromes, as well as its historical use for respiratory and dental conditions.
