Overview

Angelica sinensis root—commonly known as Dong Quai—is a traditional herbal remedy derived from the root of the Angelica sinensis plant. It has been used for over a thousand years in Chinese medicine and other East Asian medical systems primarily to address female health concerns such as menstrual disorders and menopausal symptoms. The main bioactive compound is ligustilide. Pharmacologically, it is thought to possess anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, anticoagulant, and analgesic properties. Some studies suggest potential effects on hormonal balance and blood circulation; however clinical evidence supporting these uses remains limited. Angelica sinensis root is not an approved pharmaceutical drug but is widely available as a dietary supplement or ingredient in over-the-counter products[1][2][3][4][5][6].
