Angeliq Micro

Angeliq Micro (BAY86-4891) is a low-dose, continuous combined oral hormone therapy (HT) developed by Bayer for the treatment of vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause in postmenopausal women. It consists of a combination of 17β-estradiol, a synthetic estrogen, and drospirenone, a fourth-generation progestin with anti-mineralocorticoid and anti-androgenic properties. The estradiol component replaces declining endogenous estrogen levels to alleviate climacteric symptoms like hot flushes, while drospirenone is included to protect the endometrium against estrogen-induced hyperplasia. The ultra-low dose formulation (0.5 mg estradiol / 0.25 mg drospirenone) is designed to provide efficacy with an improved safety and tolerability profile, particularly regarding bleeding patterns and endometrial safety.
