AnGes is developing an intranasal DNA vaccine for the prevention of COVID-19. The vaccine utilizes a plasmid DNA vector designed to deliver the genetic sequence of SARS-CoV-2 antigens, primarily the spike protein, directly to the nasal mucosa. Unlike traditional intramuscular vaccines, this formulation is intended to elicit mucosal immunity (secretory IgA) at the primary site of viral entry in the respiratory tract, in addition to inducing systemic humoral (IgG) and cellular immune responses. This dual-action approach aims to provide a more effective barrier against viral transmission and infection. The project represents a pivot by AnGes toward next-generation delivery methods following the discontinuation of their intramuscular DNA vaccine candidate.
